Carlyle suspends police chief amid FBI investigation
The city of Carlyle announced Thursday that Police Chief Mark Pingsterhaus was placed on paid suspension while the FBI conducts an investigation involving the police department.
Pingsterhaus could not be reached for comment Thursday.
A spokesperson for the FBI in Springfield declined to comment on the case.
The city’s announcement did not have information about why the FBI was doing the investigation.
“The City is fully cooperating with the FBI and will not be providing further comments at this time,” the statement said.
The statement noted no charges have been filed and that the city was informed of the FBI investigation on Wednesday.
Pingsterhaus announced earlier this year that he was running for the Republican nomination in the Clinton County sheriff’s primary scheduled for March 17.
The Facebook page for his sheriff’s campaign was not in operation Thursday.
Dennis Perez, the acting deputy chief of the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, also has filed to run in the GOP primary for sheriff.
Pingsterhaus and Perez are running to take the place of Sheriff Dan Travous, who chose not to run for reelection.
